#TBT from 2013 Siwan's heart-wrenching performance in The Attorney

Im Siwan in his second film, The Attorney, played the role of a high school student who is wrongly charged and tortured by the police.

Storyline from IMDB: A snobbish tax lawyer Song Woo-Seok becomes an attorney for his old friend Jinwoo (Im siwan) after seeing him being arrested by the military regime. The trial becomes a turning point in Song's life and he decides to devote himself to the democratization movement.

This film is inspired by a true story.

Siwan's role in The Attorney is small but incredibly important. Siwan managed to execute this delicate role even without any formal training in acting. He had a tough director - but he was a diligent student. You can see that he has given his all for this role. It's one role of Siwan's that I can't watch repeatedly - because the torture scenes just get to you.

Here is the trailer for the movie.

Here are a few key scenes with Siwan. This is an age-restricted video as the torture scenes are quite intense.

Siwan worked very hard while preparing for this role. He lost weight. For some scenes he fasted for days to do justice to the feeling of being tortured. He successfully experimented with method acting in this challenging role.

The film was 8th best selling Korean film of all time and was highly awarded that year. Siwan's performance was highly appreciated and he received two awards for the same.

Im Si-wan posted photos on his Twitter on the afternoon of the 20th February 2014 with the caption, "I received my first Newcomer of the Year award at the Marie Claire Film Festival. I'm not used to receiving an award, but it feels great. I will work hard in the future. Thank you to those who congratulated me." [Google Translate]
